Sliding shower doors – maximum space, minimum requirements

Sliding doors are the most practical choice for bathrooms where every centimetre in front of the shower enclosure is at a premium. Unlike hinged models, the panels of sliding doors move along fixed glass panels, without extending beyond the outline of the shower enclosure. At Besco, we design sliding systems to combine visual lightness with exceptional stability, creating a watertight and elegant enclosure.

Reliable mechanisms – quiet and smooth operation

The key to satisfaction with sliding doors lies in the quality of their guides and rollers. In Besco models, we place particular emphasis on technical specifications:

  • Double Ball-Bearing Rollers: Ensure smooth and stable door movement without unnecessary effort. The double-roller system distributes the weight of the glass more effectively, resulting in a longer service life for the mechanism.
  • Soft-Close System: The precise fit of the components ensures the doors operate almost silently, whilst magnetic seals ensure a soft and tight closure.
  • Removable Bottom Rollers: Most models feature a function to detach the lower part of the door, allowing it to be tilted back for thorough cleaning of the guide rail – the area where soap scum and limescale most commonly accumulate.

The durability and aesthetics of tempered glass

By choosing Besco sliding doors, you are opting for safety and quality that will stand the test of time:

  • Safety Glass: We use tempered glass panes of optimal thickness, ensuring the rigidity of the structure whilst maintaining the smooth operation of the rollers.
  • Protective Coating: The glass is factory-coated with Besco ProClean, a layer that helps water run off, significantly reducing cleaning time and preventing unsightly water marks.
  • Stylish Profiles: Aluminium frames serve both a structural and decorative purpose. Choose Black for a loft style, Gold for a glamorous effect, or Chrome for classic elegance.

Where do sliding doors work best?

This opening system is indispensable in bathrooms where a washbasin, washing machine or bathroom furniture is located close to the shower. The absence of a door leaf that opens outwards eliminates the risk of collision with other fixtures, ensuring complete freedom of layout.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are sliding doors difficult to clean because of the runners?

Thanks to the use of removable rollers in Besco doors, cleaning is simple. You can easily slide the bottom edge of the glass away from the profile, giving full access to the guide channel. Regular washing of the guides with water and a mild detergent prevents the mechanism from becoming clogged with limescale.

Do sliding doors in a recess require a special threshold?

Most sliding doors require the installation of a bottom profile or a subtle threshold strip, which stabilises the door’s movement and prevents water from spilling into the bathroom. In the Besco range, these thresholds are designed to be as low as possible and to blend in aesthetically with the rest of the profiles.

What should I do if my recess isn’t perfectly straight?

Besco sliding doors are fitted with wall-mounted profiles featuring an adjustment system that compensates for wall curvature. This means that even if the walls in your bathroom aren’t perfectly vertical, you can adjust the door width by a few centimetres to ensure they operate correctly and remain airtight.
